Clarity. Credibility. Confidence.
As a fundraiser, Development Director and strategic advisor over the last twenty years I have seen the power of ambitious projects. Thinking big energises the whole organisation. But what then?
It’s often when you think about how you are going to fund it that the shape of a project truly emerges. The rigour of a well planned and well articulated fundraising campaign drives you forward. Leaders are forced to think harder, to make decisions, to be bold.
Funding demands clarity of purpose, organisational credibility and confidence of success.
In my time as Director of Development at the Museum of London, we rebuilt the fundraising function – establishing the organisational confidence and credibility to take on major projects – delivering nearly £40 million towards the campaign for the new London Museum, one of the largest and most complex cultural projects in the UK. In common with all successful campaigns, a compelling vision combined with a clear strategic plan was at the heart of this success.
More recently, I have helped other organisations – including National Maritime Museum, Birmingham Museums Trust and The Box, Plymouth – to develop plans for future transformational projects.
Throughout much of 2023, I worked extensively alongside the Poet Laureate, Simon Armitage, in developing a major new initiative and capital project, The National Poetry Centre in Leeds.
I am also a director of Embrace Finance, an organisation working to increase financial confidence in charity leaders, and a trustee of Community Action for Refugees and Asylum Seekers (CARAS). I am particularly interested in issues relating to poverty, inequality and migration.
